Arthur Irvine Collins

Williamsburg - Captain Arthur Irvine, 79, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. He was born on May 27, 1935 in Frodsham, Cheshire in the United Kingdom. Arthur is survived by his wife of 46 years, Roseline; nieces, Elizabeth (Peter) Aseritis of Williamsburg, Michigan; Sandra (Jerome) Ferullo of New Jersey; Jacqueline Doyle of New York; Roxanne (Peter) DeVito of New York; and nephew, Peter Doyle of Connecticut; and several relatives in the U.K. and Northern Ireland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian Margaret Collins, M.D., and Albert Collins. Arthur attended the Merchant Navy Cadet Training School, on the fixed-base HMS Conway in the U.K., attaining a Class 1 Foreign Going (Master Mariner) Certificate. He worked for Empresa Hondourena de Vapores (formerly United Fruit Co.) where he held command of many seagoing merchant vessels that traversed the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Later he was a marine cargo surveyor for the National Cargo Bureau and owner of Collins Marine Service. He and Roseline lived for 35 years in Central Florida and subsequently moved to Williamsburg, Michigan in 2012.

Following Arthur's wishes cremation has taken place.
