TRAVERSE CITY — Arvid W. Wilson, 88, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions, surrounded by his loving family. Arvid was born on July 17, 1923, in Cadillac, to the late Frank and Sarah (Peck) Wilson. He married Gladys May Franklin on Oct. 22, 1941. Together they lovingly raised three children. Arvid honorably served our country in the United States Army as a medic during World War II in New Guinnea. As a career he chose to become a journeymen electrician and was a devoted member of the IBEW Local #498. He was a member at the VFW and the Salvation Army Church. Older Buicks and spending time with his family were very important to him. Surviving Arvid are his children, Marilyn Keech, Nora Lee Janssen and Jim (Shelly) Wilson; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Elsie Starkey; brother, George (Hazel) Wilson; sisters-in-law, Gladys Wilson and Florence Moore; and many other loving family members and friends. Arvid was preceded in death by his parents; wife; four brothers, Ed, Dennis, Elmer and Bernie; sons-in-law, Robert Keech and Louis Janssen; and a great-great-grandson, Alex Davenport.Visitation for Arvid will take place today, April 27, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012, also at the funeral home. Burial and military honors will take place at the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
