Arwilda Ann Lyon of Traverse City passed away on August 9, 2016 at The Grand Traverse Pavilions. She was 86. Arwilda was the youngest of six children born to Harry and Hazel (Geyer) Lyon.
She attended Traverse City Central High School and worked for many years for Bill Thomas in his restaurant located on Park Street in Traverse City. After she retired from restaurant work, Arwilda provided in home personal care for her aging parents , thus allowing them to live out their years in their own home. Arwilda then resided in a group home where she assisted the operator in caring for elderly and disabled residents. Arwilda was the expert on family history. All knew that if they could not remember a distant relative's name or the identity of an ancestor, Arwilda likely would be able to provide the answer. Her greatest joy in life was attending family gatherings. She enjoyed being around children including her nieces and nephews, and especially , their children. Arwilda was kind hearted, and loving.
She is survived by her many nieces, nephews, and their children. Preceding her in death were her parents and all of her siblings, Leonard Lyon (Marianne, who then married Charles Doe of Traverse City after Leonard was killed fighting in the Korean War), Kenneth William Lyon (Doris), Jane Lewis, Harry Lyon, Jr (Hilda), and Charlotte Carr (Ross). She was also preceded in death by nephew Jeffrey Lyon, and grandnephews infant, David Wayne Lewis, and Jason Lewis.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
