Auberry "Hank" Grush, 72, of Traverse City, Michigan passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 25, 2018.
Hank was born on July 14, 1945 in Mikado, Michigan to Albert Grush and Mabel Tait Fowler. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1963 and served in Berlin, Germany until honorably discharged in 1966. Hank attended Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering Technology and Land Surveying in 1968. He married Joyce Lilley on August 5, 1967 in Glennie, Michigan. Upon his graduation, the couple moved from Houghton to Traverse City, Michigan, where they raised a family and built a successful business, Grush Surveying and Mapping.
Hank enjoyed the outdoors, including his field work in the oil and gas industry, kayaking the Boardman River, hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing. He was fiercely loyal to and generous with those he held dear, including his three children and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Eric Grush of Western Springs, Illinois, his father- and mother-in-law Charles and Beulah Lilley and brother-in-law Charles Lilley, Jr. of Glennie, sisters Dora Lincoln of Mikado and Evelyn Holley of Kingsbury, California, brother Linton Fowler, Sr. of Mikado, and an infant sister, Maybelle Marie Grush of Mikado.
Hank is survived by wife of 50 years, Joyce Lilley Grush; daughter-in-law Linda Grush of Western Springs, Illinois, daughter Heather (Charles) Schultz of Savoy, Illinois, son Jeremy (Jessica) Grush of Milford, Michigan; grandchildren Ella and Adam Grush, Anne and James Schultz, and Lydia and Clara Grush; sisters Suzanne Martinez of Reedley, California, Joyce (Art) Porsche of Midland, Michigan, and Louise Fink of Chicago, Illinois; brother-in-law Dale Lilley and sister-in-law Marilyn Hendricks of Glennie, and sister-in-law Alice Lilley of Au Gres, Michigan, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Karen Rudolph, Deb Curtis, and Donna Bruneel of Munson Hospice and to Dr. Bradley Goodwin of West Front Primary Care for their professionalism, depth of compassion and exemplary care.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for 11am, Saturday July 14, 2018 at Bible Baptist Church, 1915 Cass Road, Traverse City, with a visitation prior to the service beginning at 9:30am.
