GLEN LAKE — Avel DeGraff, 88, of Glen Lake, died Jan. 25, 2011, at her home. Born Oct. 27, 1922, in Fort Wayne, Ind., she was the daughter of George V. and Edna (Marshall) Bridges. Avel attended South Side High School in Fort Wayne and upon graduation began working for the Lincoln Life Corporation.She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fort Wayne, where she met the Rev. George W. DeGraff. Avel and George were married on June 18, 1955. Avel's first visit to the Grand Traverse region was on their honeymoon. From 1955 until 1985, the DeGraffs lived in Galesburg, Ill. Avel was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, where her husband was the Rector. She had a career in banking and customer service while living in Galesburg. The DeGraffs returned to Michigan for vacation nearly every year until moving to Glen Lake in 1985. They were members of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Beulah.Survivors include a sister, Peggy McClure, of Traverse City; a son, William DeGraff, of Rockville, Md.; and a daughter, Deborah DeGraff, of Brunswick, Maine.Services are pending at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Beulah.
