Barbara A. Martin, 81, of Traverse City passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

Barbara was born on Monday, November 10, 1930 in Traverse City to Miles and Helene (Marwinski) Bright. She married Jack G. Martin, Sr., in Traverse City in 1951. He preceded her in death October 20, 1982. She then married Robert J. Hanes who also preceded her in death.

Barbara was the owner of Northern Tower with her husband Jack and later with her children. She had attended Northland Church and was a very talented painter and artist. Barbara loved gardening and music, was a beautiful pianist and thoroughly enjoyed working on and sharing genealogy. She also enjoyed playing board games with her grandchildren as well as playing video games.

She is survived by her children, Paul (Josie) Martin of South Boardman, Randy Martin, Terry (June) Martin and Jeanne (John) Gordon, all of Traverse City; her sister Sandra Miller of Traverse City; step-sons Vernon (Rebecca) Martin of Sacramento, CA, Jack (Barbara) Martin, Jr. of Traverse City, Robert (Judy) Martin of Fife Lake and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Jack and Bob; a daughter in law Janice Martin, her sister, Carolyn Henderson; granddaughters Andrea Martin, Michelle Mons and Rebecca Garrisi and her great grandsons Tommy and Jesse Garrisi.

Visitation for friends and family will be held at Bible Baptist church on Friday, August 3 from 12 noon until 1 p.m. Memorial services will begin at 1 p.m., also at the church with Pastors Joel Brown and Carlson Becker officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
