TRAVERSE CITY — Barbara Ann Falk, 77, of Suttons Bay and Florida, passed away Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.She was born March 27, 1933, to the late Minor and Clara (Toney) Myers in Ft. Wayne, Ind. Barb grew up in Kalamazoo, attending and graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School. She attended Kalamazoo College but earned her bachelor's degree from DePauw University in Indiana. On July 15, 1960, Barbara married Herbert Falk in Oxford.Barb made her living as a freelance author, cartoonist and journalist. She worked on several Michigan papers and was editor for the Women's Page of the Ann Arbor News. Barb and Herb made their home in Oxford, where they raised their three sons and never sat idle for very long. Over the years, they took family camping trips around the country covering much of the U.S., including Florida, where they eventually established a vacation home. Upon retirement Barb and Herb relocated to another favorite vacation spot, northern Michigan, where they built a home in Suttons Bay overlooking West Bay. Barb was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church and volunteered in the local community. She was a friend to many who will miss her talents, love, unconditional acceptance and ready laughter.Barbara was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Herbert Falk, of Suttons Bay, and three sons: Edward (and wife Mary) Falk of Rockford; Ken (and wife Brenda) Falk of Grass Lake; and Robert Falk (and partner Greta Ehrig) of Washington, D.C. Also surviving are her brother, Chuck (and wife Lois) Myers; a niece, Melissa (and husband Ed) Mullins; nine grandchildren (Jonathan, Katharine, Amanda; Hannah, Joshua, Karissa, Peter; Sandy, Anna); and many other loving family members and friends. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 17, 2010, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at the Grace Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Daniel P. Richards officiating. Graveside committal services will be held in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
