Barbara Ann Chereskin, 71, of Traverse City, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at Munson Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Barb was born on July 3, 1943 in Atlantic City, NJ to the late Edward and Emily (Carnall) Sinks. She married James M. Chereskin on March 9, 1963 in Brookfield, IL. Together, they lovingly raised three wonderful sons.
Family was the center of Barb's life. She cared for her husband and family with unwavering dedication and love. Known by not only her grandchildren, but so many who loved her, "Grammy Barb" will leave an aching hole in many hearts. Her kindness, selflessness and caring spirit cannot be replaced, nor can her perfect chocolate chip cookies. Always laughing (often to the point of tears), she was a true and genuine friend to all she met. Barb attended First Christian Church in Traverse City.
Surviving Barb is her husband, James, of 52 cherished years, sons, Michael (Nancy) Chereskin of Traverse City; James (Deborah) Chereskin of Naperville, IL; and Dean (Shawn) Chereskin of Clayton, MO; grandchildren; Kerry (Jeff), Jeremy, Kelsey, Alec, Emma and Jack, her brother, Kenneth (Sue) Schooley, her sister, Suzanne Matousek and step-father Dennis Schooley and many other loving family members and friends. Barb is preceded in death by her parents.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 26, 2015 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home beginning at 10 a.m. A funeral service celebrating her life will follow at 11a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
