Barbara Ann Coesens, 89, of Traverse City, Michigan passed away December 5, 2023.
Barb was born on March 3, 1934 in Maumee, Ohio to the late Louis and Kathryn (Rohr) Hansen. She met and married the love of her life Norman L. Coesens who predeceased her in 1989 after a brave battle with cancer. They were united in marriage on December 12, 1953 in Detroit, MI at the Christ Lutheran Church. Together, they lovingly raised three wonderful children. Barb dedicated her life to being an adoring mother and devoted wife, finding joy in her family above all else.
Originally from Detroit, the family later moved to Traverse City. Barb was an active member of the Grand Traverse Hockey Association, showcasing her passion for community involvement. In her spare time, she enjoyed ceramics, sewing, reading, puzzles, camping, and yardwork. Barb worked many years undertaking various roles within the Traverse City school system, notably in the kitchen and on the playgrounds. Also as a secretary at Detroit Edison prior to that.
Her love for sweets, especially cookies, was well-known, reflecting her indulgence in life's simple pleasures. Barb cherished moments on pontoon boats and finding happiness in the company of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
She is survived by her children, Kim Simon of Traverse City, Michigan, Kelly (James) Goff of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Kurt (Melanie) Coesens of Highland, Michigan; grandchildren, Kate (David) Evans, Michael Haven, Michelle (Marc) Pouliot, Brian (Kristin) Goff, Brenden Coesens, Riley Coesens; great grandchildren, Alex, Carter, Logan, Lilah, Emma, sister-in-law Maureen Hansen, nephew Scott (Becke) Hansen, niece Lynn Hansen and many other loving family members and friends.
Barb is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Norman and her brother Gerald "Jerry" Hansen and Nephew-In-Law Steve.
Funeral services will be held for her on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 11am with a visitation held one hour prior. Burial will take place next to her husband, parents and grandparents at the Brethren Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of One's Choice or to the family.
