Traverse City - Barbara Y. Corrigan, 75 of Traverse City,MI passed away August 22, 2016 at Munson Medical Center.

Barbara was born on April 21, 1941 in Gary, IN to the late Bancroft and Louise (Tittle) Yarrington.

Barbara graduated from Horace Mann High School. She then attended Lake Forest College in Illinois and later received her Bachelor's in Education from Indiana University. She taught first grade for many years, first at Vohr School in Gary, IN and later at Griffith School in Griffith, IN.

Barbara and William C. Corrigan were married on July 15, 1972 in Gary, IN. He fell in love with her beautiful smile and caring nature. Together they raised two daughters in Crown Point, IN and later moved to Valpariso, IN and finally retired to Northern Michigan which was a favorite vacation destination.

In her younger years, Barbara loved to bowl. Recently, she enjoyed spending time with friends and catalog shopping. She had the unique ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and would almost always develop a nice relationship with them. She also liked to go shopping with her daughters and friends. Barbara was active in her church communities and taught Sunday School for both children and adults. She will be greatly missed.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 44 years William, daughter Susan Corrigan Mark of Chicago, daughter Julie (Brandon) Corrigan Wert of Hebron, IN, grandchildren Oliver William Mark, Haley Wert and Hunter Wert; sister-in-law Nancy (Forest) Cox, nephew Dave (Tina) Yarrington, and niece Darcy (Roger) Kincade.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved brother Webb.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 4:00 pm at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 3:00 pm. Rev. Katherine Coombs will lead the service.
