TRAVERSE CITY — Barbara Ann Falk, 77, of Suttons Bay and Florida, passed away Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.She was born March 27, 1933, to the late Minor and Clara (Toney) Myers in Fort Wayne, Ind. Barb grew up in Kalamazoo, attending and graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School. She attended Kalamazoo College but earned her bachelor's degree from DePauw University in Indiana.On July 15, 1960, Barbara married Herbert Falk in Oxford.Barb made her living as a journalist, author and cartoonist. She displayed her artistic talents at a young age by doodling. As her skills developed, she was eventually recognized and some of her work was published.Barb worked for several of the state's publications and was editor for the Women's Page of the Ann Arbor News.Herb and Barb made their home in Oxford while they raised their three sons, but never sat idle for long. They took family trips to Florida and continued the tradition vacationing there in the winter since 1970. Upon retirement, Barb and Herb relocated to one of the favorite vacation spots, northern Michigan, as they built a home in Suttons Bay overlooking West Bay. Barb was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and active as a volunteer.She was a true people person and a friend to many. She will be missed for her talent, friendship and love to her family.Barbara is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Herb Falk, of Suttons Bay; and three sons, Edward (Mary) Falk of Rockford, Robert Falk (friend Gretchen Ehrig), of Washington, D.C., and Ken (Brenda) Falk of Grass Lake. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Jonathon, Kate, Amanda, Sandy, Anna, Hannah, Joshua, Karissa and Peter; her brother, Chuck (Lois) Myers; a niece, Melissa; and many other loving family members and friends.Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.Visitation for friends and family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at the Grace Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Daniel P. Richards officiating.
