Barbara Ann Chouinard Fewins, of Traverse City, passed away on May 8, 2025, at the age of 89. She was born on June 6, 1935, to Lawrence and Arvilla (Couturier) Chouinard.
Barbara married the love of her life, Loren Fewins, on June 27, 1953, at St. Francis Church. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and faith.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Barbara was known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. Even when her own home and heart were full, she opened them to children in need, fostering and caring for them as if they were her own.
Barbara's faith gave her strength and calm in all of life's challenges. She was welcoming and accepting of everyone, always offering a seat at her table and a listening ear. At home, when not caring for her family, Barbara enjoyed playing cards and dominoes. She also loved watching her family play sports and cheered them on with pride. A joyful spirit, she never passed up a chance to dance or celebrate—she truly loved a good party and brought warmth and laughter wherever she went.
After raising her family, Barbara continued her life of service by becoming a program counselor at the Community Living Center in 1983, where she made a lasting impact on many lives.
Barbara is survived by her children, Larry (Laurie) Fewins, Michael (Kim) Fewins, Ronald (Sharon) Fewins, Duane Fewins, Dennis (Tammy) Fewins, Jean (Jeffery) Popa, Karen (Matthew) Meteer, and Stephen (Nicole) Fewins; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Cecelia Wise and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Loren Fewins; her parents, Lawrence and Arvilla; her brothers, Robert, Leon, Lawrence, John, and James; and her sister, Yvonne O'Brien.
Barbara will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
