Leland – Barbara Poor Hatt, 86, passed away on July 13, 2015. Barb was born on December 15, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Charles and Agnes Poor. She attended the University of Maine and graduated from Eastern Michigan University before attaining her Master's Degree from Wayne State University. She married Dick Hatt, the love of her life, on June 30, 1956. Barbara and Dick resided in Royal Oak, Michigan. After her retirement from Ferndale High School in 1985, Barb and Dick moved to Leland, where Dick's family has summered since in 1906. Barb continued her love of teaching by substituting at the Leland High School. She volunteered at the Leland Library for over 20 years and also participated in other activities such as Garden Club and The Conservancy's Wild Flower Rescue. Away from volunteering, Barb enjoyed water color painting, entertaining, and spending time with her family. Barb will be truly missed by all who knew her. Barb is survived by her sister Sally Strachan of Surprise, AZ, son Rod Hatt of Versailles, KY, daughters Marcelle (Scott) Harris of Bloomingdale, MI and Sarah (Richard) Bourgeois of Traverse City, grandchildren Aryl, Peter, Matheson, Casey, Phillip, and Lydia along with nine great grandchildren: Matt, Remi, Bodhi, Jordan, Piper, Zach, Mckenzie, William and Belle. Barb was preceded in death by her husband Dick, son-in-law Richard Rathburn and grandson Robert Hatt. Per Barb's wishes cremation has taken place and she will be buried in Leland at the Beechwood Cemetery with a private ceremony.
