Barbara Ann McMullen, 81, of Traverse City and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025.
Barb was born on July 4, 1943 in Edmore to the late Donald Eugene and Jessie Phyllis (Arnold) Curtiss.
Barb worked as a teller at American Security Bank where she met her husband, Jim, who she was married to for nearly 50 years. She then went on to work at and retired from Central Michigan University after 25 years in the accounts receivable department.
Barb and Jim were married on May 10, 1975 and they went on to raise a family of five children in the Beal City and Mt. Pleasant communities.
She will be remembered with love for her calm and loving presence. She was very passionate about decorating and inspired family and friends with her style. In her free time, she enjoyed listening to Elvis and reading about the Kennedy family. Above all else, she adored her family and loved to spend time with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.
Barb was preceded in death by her brothers Robert and Boyd Curtiss.
Barb is survived by her beloved husband, Jim; their children Kelly (Kurt) Schafer, Kerry Steele, Jeff (Annette) McMullen, James "Curt" (Jill) McMullen and Tory (Lori) McMullen; grandchildren Karly (Dave) Gibson, Logan (Hunter) Schafer, Buddy Schafer, Brandon McMullen, Brooke (Ryan) Wurtz, Spencer McMullen, Austin (Marie) McMullen, Haley McMullen and Amanda McMullen; great grandchildren Arlo, Lennon, Elle, Briar, Isla, Maeve and Olivia; her sister Becky Bellinger and her sisters-in-law Diane and Rosy Curtiss.
The family is planning a small, intimate gathering in Traverse City in February and a celebration of life in May on Mackinac Island.
She will be laid to rest at the columbarium at St. Joseph on Old Mission Peninsula at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan or to the Alzheimer's Association.
