Barbara Gayle Meyers, 85, of Traverse City, passed away on January 13, 2015. Barbara was born on February 24, 1929, in Traverse City, to her parents the late Harry Burnette and Beulah Gayle (Holliday) Whitson.

She attended and graduated from Traverse City High School in 1947 and was later employed as an administrative assistant with Munson Medical Center, until retiring in 1998. She was a parishioner of Central United Methodist Church and her hobbies included knitting, needlecraft, reading, doing puzzles, walking and traveling. Barbara was kind, thoughtful and a very loving wife, mother, sister and dear friend, who will be greatly missed by all.

Barbara married John Jay Meyers on March 16, 1979 and the couple lived in Traverse City.

Barbara is survived by a daughter, Susan (Jay) Oakley, of Spotsylvania, VA.; sons, Jeffrey (Lynn) Blackmore, of Weaverville, NC., John (Jane) Blackmore, of Jacksonville, NC., David (Barbara Braden) Blackmore, of Cedar, MI., Jay (Nannette) Meyers, of Mayfield, MI., Paul (Jody) Meyers, of Traverse City,; brother-in-law, (by sister Mary Lou Hood) Jack (Irene) Hood of Traverse City,; nephews, Mark (Chris) Hood, of Bloomington, IN., Brett (Barb) Hood, of Traverse City, Bruce (Laura) Hood, of Cedar MI.; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Lou Hood; husband, John Jay Meyers; ex-husband, Bruce Edward Blackmore; step-daughter, Grace Anne Meyers.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday February 7, 2015, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with visitation held one hour prior. Burial will be at the Central United Methodist Church Columbarium.
