Barbara Jean Moran, 82, of Traverse City, formerly of Alpena, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 8, 2025, at Autumn House Assisted Living.

Barbara was born on August 8, 1943, in Traverse City, Michigan, the daughter of Thomas Moran and Mildred (Garey) Moran.

She is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Au and Mary Ann Fudge, along with seven nieces and nephews and four great-nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mildred Moran; her brothers, Timothy Moran and Thomas Moran; and her nephew, Michael Au.

Barbara graduated from Northwestern Michigan College with a Medical Secretary Certificate and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Education and a Master's degree in Education from Western Michigan University. She dedicated 30 years to teaching, most of them at Alpena Community College, before retiring in 1995.

In 1969, Barbara moved to Alpena, where she enjoyed her home on Lake Huron. She loved the natural beauty of the area, especially the birds and waterfowl that frequented the shoreline.

Barbara was an avid knitter and basket maker, creating sweaters, hats, mittens, and baskets for her nieces and nephews and selling her work at craft shows. She also enjoyed playing cards, particularly Euchre and Cribbage. Known for her skill at Cribbage, she relished challenging family members and was considered tough to beat.

Friends are welcome to visit with Barbara's family from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, Michigan 49684.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1025 S. Union St., Traverse City, Michigan 49684.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, Michigan, or Bayside Wellness Hospice, also in Traverse City.
