Barbara Kay Roach, lovingly known as "Barb," passed away on September 7, 2024, in Traverse City, Michigan, at the age of 92. She was born on January 10, 1932, to Ivan and Irene (Mukri) Wheeland in Detroit, Michigan.
Barb married the love of her life, Edward Lawrence Roach, on April 19, 1952, in Detroit. Together, they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage, raising a family and building a life full of love and dedication. Barb and Ed made their home in the Detroit area, where Ed worked for General Motors as a photographer in the safety and research department, and Barb devoted herself to her family.
Barb was a devoted and loving mother who always put her family first. She was a talented seamstress, creating beautiful clothing and Halloween costumes for her children. Barb was known for having a warm and welcoming home, never turning anyone away and always having a hot meal ready. She was an active supporter of her children's activities, always present at their sporting events. She always loved her dogs cats, having many over the years. In her later years, Barb became an avid fan of football, cheering on both the University of Michigan Wolverines, and the Detroit Lions with enthusiasm.
Barb is survived by her children: Lawrence (Sandra) Roach of Southgate, Suzanne Morrison of Traverse City, Thomas (Kittie) Roach of Ypsilanti, and Karen (Dillard) McBride of Manton. She was also the proud grandmother of John Scott Morrison, Sarah Sladek, Mary Roach, Kristina Wears, Meggie Roach, Ysabel McBride, Telsa McBride, and Phoebe McBride, and the great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren.
Barb was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward, her son, Kevin (Beth), and her daughter, Mary Beth (Charles Gray) Roach. She was also predeceased by her parents and siblings.
Visitation for Barb will be held on Tuesday, September 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 11, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior at St. Patrick Catholic Church. A luncheon will follow the service, and burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the Oakwood Catholic cemetery.
