TRAVERSE CITY — Barbara Roop, 72, of Traverse City, passed away April 8, 2012, at her home.Barb was born Dec. 5, 1939, in Kingsley, to the late Earl and Norva (Weaver) Houghton. On Dec. 6, 1958, Barb married Delbert Roop in Kingsley.Barb drove a school bus for Traverse City Area Public Schools for 27 years prior to her retirement. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing and knitting.Barb was preceded in death by her brother, William Houghton.Barb is survived by her husband of 52 years, Delbert; her sons, Jake (Linda), of Traverse City, and Michael (Kris), of South Dakota; and grandchildren, Melissa Roop, of Albuquerque, Bill (Shayla) Roop, of Colombia, Mo., P.F.C. Christopher Roop, of Okinawa, Japan, Mike Brackel, of Traverse City, and Amanda Roop, of South Dakota; great-grandson, Dylan Roop, of Colombia, Mo.; brothers, Earl Houghton Jr. and Milo (Julie) Houghton; sisters, Velma Parker, Betty (Bob) Shaw and Patricia (Doug) Jacobs.The funeral for Barb will be held at noon Thursday, April 12, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., at Zion Baptist Church.
