Barbara Jean Storey

Barbara Jean Storey, 91, of Charlevoix, passed peacefully in her sleep on September 8, 2026, at Mallard Cove in Petoskey, MI, with family having been at her bedside for five weeks during her final illness. Mom was known for her love of family, her Christian faith, and her sense of humor by all who knew her.

Mom was born on December 28, 1934, in Central Lake, MI. Her late parents, Eldon and Minerva (McGuire) Telgenhof, lived on their Central Lake farm to raise her and her brother. She lived a long and happy life, raising her own family in Charlevoix with our beloved Dad, Gordon Wolgamott, on the family farm also taking in foster children. She was the first Director of the Bergman Center; was a beloved teacher’s aide and school bus driver; and an avid seamstress and homemaker. Later in life she moved to Traverse City and married John Lewis Storey, much beloved by all who knew him. When John passed, Mom met Leslie Spiers, through serendipity, moved to Florida and continued Mom’s lifelong joy in helping others, volunteering for many aid organizations through their church. After Les passed, Mom returned "home" to Northern Michigan and enjoyed an active life at Mallard Cove Assisted Living.

She is survived by her 4 children Debbie (Brad) Campbell in North Carolina, Sheri (Billy) Fels in Charlevoix, Della Earegood in Charlevoix, and Gordy Wolgamott (Georgia Emge) in Florida; 4 grandchildren Bryan “BJ” (Laura) VanLoo, William “Tony” (Jenny) Pearsall, Krista Pearsall (Taylor Mullins), and Zack (Maggie) Whitley; 13 great-grandchildren Kylie Nolan (John), Racheal VanLoo (Nick Drake), Ellarie VanLoo (Derek Hetu), Jace VanLoo, Michael Pearsall (Payton Novotny), Olivia Pearsall, Aaliah Pearsall (Jon Dennings), Zave Towsley, Max Whitley, Natalie Whitley, Marigold Whitely, Landon Whitley, and Josiah Whitley; 1 great-great-granddaughter Evangeline (Eva) Dennings; sisters-in-law/brother-in-law Laurene Kooyer (Ron), Carolyn Wolgamott, and Don and Pat Wolgamott.

She was preceded in death by brother Marvin “Chuck” Telgenhof; grandchildren Jason VanLoo and Rebecca Rhodes; brothers-in-law/sisters-in-law Verl Wolgamott, Nancy and Robert Loper, Wanda Wolgamott, and John and Shirley Wolgamott.

Per her wishes, a cremation has taken place, and a private family memorial will be held later. God bless you, Mom – we’ll see you in heaven!
