TRAVERSE CITY - Beatrice (Betty) Wheelock, 100, of Traverse City passed away December 12, 2018 at South Ridge Assisted Living in Traverse City.
Born September 20, 1918 in Adrian, MI she was the daughter of William and Vera McDermott (Hartman). On July 4, 1935 in Traverse City, she married Arthur D. Wheelock.
Betty was formerly employed by the Armour Estate located on Long Lake. She worked at various other jobs including Olsen's Food Stores for 16 years. For 33 years she lived on the Murray Farm on the Old Mission Peninsula, otherwise known as the Ridgewood, now known as Old Mission Point Park. Betty and Arthur were actively involved with and enjoyed square dancing and loved to teach others how to round dance.
She is survived by her sons, Warren (Kay) of Traverse City, Don (Jean) of Cedar, 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur, a sister Eileen Bendokos, her daughter, Patricia Shumsky and son, Howard Wheelock.
A memorial service will take place on January 19, 2019 at 11 am at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior. Betty's final resting place will be Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
