Ben Ditta

Dec 2, 1933 — Jul 27, 2026

Benny DItta, 92, of Traverse City, passed away on July 26, 2026.

Benny was born on December 2, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Nicola and Angela (Aloia) Ditta.

After graduating from high school in Detroit, Benny held various jobs until joining the Army, where he was stationed in Germany. After honorably completing his military service, Benny attended Wayne State University on the GI Bill where he was a member and president of the International Society and secretary of Delta Sigma Pi. He graduated in 1961 with a BA in Business Administration.

On July 15, 1941, he married Patricia E. Grates at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan.

Benny had a successful career as a sales manager with IBM, where he was repeatedly recognized as a Golden Circle award honoree. After retiring from IBM, he worked in sales with MCI and Fisher Consulting Services.

Throughout his life Benny placed an emphasis on physical fitness. He enjoyed running, tennis, and pickleball.

He enjoyed helping others less fortunate through his active membership in the Rotary Club.

Above all, Benny was a family man. He loved and supported his wife and children with all his heart and energy. From humble beginnings, he strived to ensure they achieved their full potential just as he had and then some. We were blessed to have him as the patriarch of our family.

Benny is survived by his beloved wife Patty; their children Angela Ditta Rabette, Nick (Stacy Reimer) Ditta, Biz Shellard, and Pam (Dylan) Foglesong; five grandchildren, Madison, Spencer (Ashton), Audrey (Kenny), Camilla, and Gretel, and two great-grandchildren, Botts and Izzy.

Benny was predeceased by his siblings Phillip, WIlliam, and Paula.

Benny was the eternal optimist. He will be dearly missed.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place, and the family will celebrate his life at a later date.
