WILLIAMSBURG — Bernard Joseph Dockery, 89, of Williamsburg, passed away March 18, 2012, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.He was born on the family farm in Williamsburg on May 27, 1922, to the late Patrick and Delia (King) Dockery. In June 1940, Bernard graduated from Williamsburg High School, where he was class president. He married Adeline Hoyne on Aug. 18, 1951, at our Lady of Mount Caramel Catholic Church in Chicago. He served in the Air Force from 1941-45.In 1987, Bernard retired from NCR Corp., where he was a field engineer, after 37 years.Bernard was an avid gardener. He could fix almost anything. He was most proud of his family and will be dearly missed.Bernie is survived by his wife of 60 years, Adeline; children, June (Sam) Valenti, of Sunnyvale, Calif., Mary (Joe) Dockery-Jackson, of Rock Island, Ill., James (Michelle Miles) Dockery, of Park Ridge, Ill., Tomas Dockery, of Williamsburg, and Sharon (Jeffrey) Carter, of Wyoming, Mich.; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Leo and Lawrence.Visitation will take place Wednesday, March 21, from 5 to 7 p.m., with the Rosary to be prayed at 5 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 22, at the church, followed by interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Kewadin.Memorial contributions in memory of Bernie may be directed to a charity of one's choice.The family wishes to thank the staff at the Grand Traverse Pavilions for the excellent, kind care they gave Bernard during this trying time.Please visit
