Bernard "Ben" Joseph Reilly, Jr., PhD, 83, was born on February 12, 1934. A long time resident of Brighton died peacefully at Traverse City Victorian Senior Living on May 5, 2017. He was born in Detroit, growing up in Dearborn and graduating from Saint Alphonsus High School in 1952. In 1953 Ben honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a map interpretation specialist. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Michigan University. He then began teaching English at Dearborn High School.

Ben married the love of his life Margaret Wilson in June of 1966. He then went on to receive his Doctorate in Linguistics from the University of Michigan. Ben was a Linguistics professor at Oakland University.

He loved to travel with Margaret a few of their favorite trips include visits to London, Ireland, the Orient Express, Russia and Egypt. Ben was always well dressed and a proper gentleman.

Surviving are loving wife of 52 years, Margaret Reilly, a "special" niece Judy (Dr. Robert Newhouse) Mulkern as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

In accordance with Ben's wishes cremation has taken place.

A Mass honoring Ben will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 10:30 a.m., with visiting starting at 9:30, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 711 Rickett Rd., Brighton, Michigan 48116. Rev. Fr. Karl Pung will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial donation to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
