Bernard "Bernie" Thurston Strong II, 80, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully at his home on September 6, 2024.
Son of Bernard T. Strong and Greta E. Strong (Nylund), Bernie was born on August 9, 1944, in Traverse City, MI. He had a lifelong passion for science and astronomy. As a young man, he won the Regional Science Fair and went on to receive numerous innovator awards during his distinguished 31-year career as an electrician at General Motors in Flint, MI. He was able to fix just about anything.
On April 8, 1966, Bernie married the love of his life, Mary K. Pratt, and they shared countless cherished moments. Bernie and Mary were inseparable, enjoying camping, going out to eat, Moomers ice cream, and spending time together with others at their church. Together, they raised two children.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Mary. He is survived by his children, Bernard T. Strong III (Barbara) and Sandra K. Strong; three grandsons; his sister, Dana E. Strong; and his brother, Gary W. Strong (Karen).
A memorial gathering will take place on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Woodside Wesleyan Church from 1–3 p.m., followed by burial at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
