Bernice Micklin, 99, of Traverse City, formerly of Oak Lawn and Orland Park, Illinois, passed away January 2, 2022 at French Manor.
Bernice was born on October 2, 1922 in Warsaw, Illinois to the late Cecil and Luella (Trautvetter) Barnett. Bernice spent her childhood and teenage years on the family farm in Warsaw. It was during the depression and life was hard, but she had many happy memories of those years. After high school graduation Bernice moved to Chicago where she met and married Frank Micklin on June 3, 1944, whom she always referred to as "not only my husband but my best friend, too".
Bernice had many interests. She liked all sorts of crafts and was an excellent seamstress. She loved gardening and had beautiful flower gardens at her home in Oak Lawn and during the summer months, the family enjoyed all the good vegetables she grew.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents,her husband Frank, son Richard, grandson Frank and sisters Bev Scott and Virginia Roerig. Bernice is survived by her daughter-in-law Marcia; granddaughter Emily (Mark) Miraflor; brother Richard (Eun) Barnett, nieces and nephews Barbara Tatic, Mary Dorgan, Veronica (Mike) Pajouk, Geri (Jim)Hodge, MIke Scott and Laura (Mike) Noun and many great-nieces and nephews.
Her family wishes to thank the staff at French Manor for their kind and loving care of Bernice during her stay there and Hospice of Michigan for the same during her final days.
A celebration of her life is planned for a later date and she will be laid to rest at the St. Casimir Catholic Lithuanian Cemetery in Chicago.
