Obituary

Betty Lou Burton, Traverse City, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024, at Munson Hospice House. Born on March 13, 1929, to potato farmers in Traverse City, Betty Lou Case was a country girl at heart, known for her independence and feisty spirit.

Betty married the love of her life, Jerome G. Burton, with whom she shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a legacy of love and commitment that inspired many.

A dedicated and active member of the Traverse Bay United Methodist Church, Betty was a founding member of the church at Ramsdale and Bay Streets. Her faith and community service were cornerstones of her life, influencing and touching the lives of countless individuals.

Betty had a passion for bird watching and was known for always having a vase of gladiolas on her kitchen table, a testament to her appreciation for nature's beauty. Her strength and determination made her a powerful woman in many respects.

Betty's community involvement extended beyond her church. She taught classes with the Red Cross, served as an EMT on the Old Mission Peninsula, and worked for the Office of Civil Defense. Her career in sales took her to various department stores, including Kresge, Millikens, and Macy's. Betty was a certified bra fitter and one of the best prosthesis artists for women who had undergone mastectomies due to breast cancer, providing comfort and confidence to many.

Betty's impact on the community was profound. Her dedication to helping others, her active participation in civic duties, and her vibrant personality will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her three children, Penny Korb, Pamla Hills (Warren Hills), and Paul Burton (Janice Lane), as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerome.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday June 27th, at 11:00amat Traverse Bay United Methodist Church where friends and family are invited to celebrate Betty's life and legacy .Burial will take place on Friday, at 11:00 at Ogdensburg Cemetery on the Old Mission Peninsula.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Munson Hospice House in Betty's memory.
