"Isn't it beautiful?" This was Betty's favorite saying about almost all things in her life.
Betty was born on June 5, 1932 to Clara and Arthur Grant. She was born in Lake Leelanau and was one of ten children. The family moved to Traverse City when she was ten years old. She married Calvin Cole on January 31, 1953. Betty was a wonderful mother and homemaker! Her home was the ultimate gathering place for family and friends. She was an excellent cook, talented seamstress and gardener.
Betty was a classy woman that made it a goal to talk to everyone. In fact, she was so
friendly that her children (Andrea, Tom, Janet, Randy and Calvin) had a hard time
getting her out of Prevos without her talking to at least ten people in the store.
When her children were young, they went almost every day with their neighborhood
friends in her Corvair to O-AT-KA Beach. "Beach Bum Betty" always loved the beach.
In the wintertime, Betty enjoyed cross country skiing, sledding and taking the children
to Hickory Hills to ski.
Betty and Cal took many winter trips to Florida. Betty was known as the unofficial
mayor of the Sandpiper Resort on Anna Marie Island, Florida because of her outgoing
personality and was known and loved by all.
Her nine grandchildren loved being with her as she always made their lives fun and
filled with happiness. They always treasured her presents from Milliken's and as have
many fond memories. Her six great grandchildren loved playing in her yard that was
filled with beautiful gardens and lush grass. Betty truly loved Traverse City and all of the
activities it offered.
After losing her loving husband Cal of 70 years this past January, she enjoyed getting
together with the quilting club at Bethlehem Lutheran church, dinner and card playing
with her sister Louise and daughter Janet. She loved getting together with her friends
for lunch. Betty had a wonderful life and will be greatly missed by all.
Betty always ended her conversations "Too da Loo"!
Betty's memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran church on Saturday,
November 26 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:30.
