Betty Jean Degrandt

October 5, 1949 — July 6, 2020

Betty DeGrandt, 70, of Traverse City, formerly Bad Axe, passed away July 6, 2020, at Munson Medical Center due to complications from pancreatic cancer, listening to peaceful music as she completed her earthly journey, with her children by her side.
Betty was born on October 5, 1949 in Bad Axe, MI to the late Charles and Sophie "Jean" (Kastraba) DeGrandt. She was one of two children.
For many years Betty worked as a cook and a caregiver, at a few local senior/assisted living facilities. She volunteered her time to the Father Fred organization and more recently, volunteered at a daycare, which she greatly enjoyed. The children knew her as Grandma Betty, and reading to and playing with them was the highlight of her week.
She loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending time with her two children and two grandchildren, as well as her sister and her family.
Her thirst for learning kept her reading daily.
To quote a good friend, "Betty was and forever will be one of the most elegant, informed, knowledgeable and bravest humans I have ever met."
A memorial service will take place on Saturday July 18, 2020 at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior at the Bayview Wesleyan Church.
In lieu of flowers, Betty requested that you consider a contribution to a local food pantry of your choice, in Betty's honor.
Please visit www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com to share your memories with the family.
Betty and her family are being cared for by the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
