Betty Lucille McTaggart, 94, a life time resident of Traverse City passed away peacefully Thursday, August 22, 2024 at French Manor Terra.
Betty was born on May 23, 1930 in Traverse City to the late James Madison and Mamie (Mikota) Manville. She married the late Levi R. McTaggart on September 10, 1977. Betty lived a life full of love, hard work, and dedication to her community and family.
She was a hard worker by nature, Betty dedicated 19 years to Olson's Food Stores as a cashier where she retired in 1986. Following her time at Olson's, Betty provided daycare for many years before joining JCPenney as a sales clerk, where she enjoyed helping many people thru the years.
Her love for her community extended far beyond her professional life. Betty was a devoted volunteer, serving as an usher for the Traverse City Symphony Orchestra and volunteering at Encore and the Concerts on the Lawn, where she would happily serve attendees delicious food, even on the hottest days. She found joy in keeping a spotless home, tending to her garden, and sharing her famous cream pies during the holidays and her perfectly canned peaches and cherries.
Betty was also an active member of the Betty Club and the Red Hat Society, where she formed cherished friendships and enjoyed many memorable moments.
Above all, Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love, hard work, and community service will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be a part of her long life.
She is survived by her daughters, Connie (Mike) Hall of Traverse City, Brenda (Mark) Andrus of Traverse City, Ronda (James) Ward of Grand Rapids, grandchildren, Tammy (Fiancé Mike Smith) Sylvester, Tanya (Curt) Young, Corey (Andrea) Hall, Laura (Erik Schuessler) VanHolstyn, Eric (Fiancée Sarah Wilson) VanHolstyn, step-granddaughter, Victoria (Jarod) Sokol, great grandchildren, Madison, Conner, Quinton, Breitlin, Giavanna, Declan, Eloise, Alexandra and Gabriella, her sister Beverly McQueer, her brother-in-law Kenneth Hoekwater, along with many other loving family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Levi, her siblings, Shirley Johnson, Clair Manville, Rosie McQueer, Dorothy Hoekwater, Carl Manville, Lawrence Manville, Mary Lyle, and Ralph Manville.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a visitation held one hour prior. A delicious luncheon will be served in Betty's honor in the beautiful gardens of Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home following the service. Burial will then follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
