Obituary

Betty Monahan of Traverse City entered into eternal life on February 9, 2021. She was born and raised in Flushing, Michigan the sixth of seven daughters of immigrant farmers from Czechoslovakia. She met the love of her life, Ted, in high school and he was her soul mate until his death in 1980. Ted and Betty moved to Traverse City in 1961, a place they had frequented and fell in love with to raise their family. After 15 years living downstate, Betty returned to Traverse City to be closer to her children.
Betty was a creative and artistic woman with a strong spirit. She spent her time painting, baking, braiding rugs and sewing. She loved her daily walks along the bay and spending time with her family. She was an active member of St. Francis Church and especially enjoyed Father Ken's masses.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Theodore Monahan and eldest daughter Debbie Zava.
She is survived by children Paula (Doug) Donaldson, Corinne (Tim) Shrift, Kelly (Brian) Guswiler, and Pete (Erin) Monahan all of Traverse City. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Ted, Corinna, Paul, Megan, Anna, Abby, Sam, Brandon, Jenna, Carson and Cameron and great grandchildren Jeyli, Jaxson, Julianna and Henry.
Those wishing to honor Betty can make donations to Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools.
The family would like to extend thanks to the Munson Hospice team for their loving care and assistance allowing her to pass in her home with family by her side.
