Betty Lou Olvitt, 72, of Traverse City, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, February 6, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born on Tuesday, July 11, 1944 in Traverse City to Edward and Gloria (Richards) Kinnee. She attended Traverse City High School and went on to college at Northwestern Michigan College. She married Clarence McAllister and together they had three children; Julie, Terry and Greg. She later married, Michael Olvitt and together they had one daughter, Angelas. She worked for many years at the Grand Traverse Pavilions and retired on July 31, 2010.
Betty will be remembered for her loving, caring and encouragement, as well as her goofiness and practical jokes. She was a wonderful encourager, a non-judgmental listener who always put others first, especially her children. She loved her grandchildren and was always there to help. She would make up stories and could keep the ruse going for hours. She was a gifted bowler and passed on her love for the sport to her kids and grand kids. Betty also enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley.
She is survived by her daughters Julie (Purl) Leazier and Angelas (Edward) Hansen; sons Terry (Lorrie) McAllister and Greg McAllister; sisters Sharon Kinnee, Donna Kinnee and Judy (John) Abernethy; brother Edward (Sandy) Kinnee Jr; and 19 grand children and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Gloria (Richards) Kinnee, and her brother David Kinnee.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 3 p.m., with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. Pastor Mike Patterson Sr. will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers those wishing an expression of sympathy may direct contributions to the family to help with funeral expenses. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
