Elizabeth "Betty" Rhodes , 84 of Traverse City passed away peacefully on July 3, 2015 at The Grand Traverse Pavilions. She resided there since March 2014 fighting a courageous battle against cancer. While she did not emerge the victor against the disease she touched those around her with her strength, perseverance and true kindness toward all.
Betty was born to Jospehine (Schoprieray) and Frank Schetteck of Maple City on June 23, 1931. She was a beloved mother, sister, grandma and dear friend. She will forever be remembered for her sweet smile and gracious nature. Betty asked for so little in life yet was so willing to give all she had to those she loved. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Many an evening you could find her son with a grandchild or two filling her room with love and sharing memories of a life well lived. And if any of those visits included a trip to the casino you would hear no objection from Betty.
Betty is survived by her sons Jeff (Jennifer) Rhodes and Matt Rhodes of Traverse City, grandchildren Jordan, Tori, Addie, Ben, Lilly, Evie and Alexis Rhodes; sisters, Frances (Harold) Lautner, Theresa Garvin, and many nieces, nephews and a great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frankie, Benny, Basil,& Harry; brother in-law, Tony Garvin; nephew, Ricky Lautner, and her son; Corey James Rhodes.
A special "Thank you" is extended to her caregivers at the Pavilions Jennifer, Cindy and Deb to name a few - You made it a home for Betty and we are forever grateful for the love and compassion you extended to her.
