Bonnie Katherine Tafelsky, 98, a lifelong resident of Traverse City passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at her home with her family at her side.
Bonnie was born on March 19, 1920 in Wellston, MI. She was raised by her grandmother Clemencia Matzen. She married Philip Tafelsky on November 4, 1940 in Traverse City and they lovingly raised four children together.
Bonnie worked at Munson Medical Center from 1970-1984 as a baker. She also worked at Immaculate Conception School as a cook. as well as at the Maples Dress Store and at the drugstore. She and Philip were devoted members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for 68 years.
Bonnie is survived by one remaining sister, Phyllis Wylie. Bonnie is also survived by her children; daughter, Patricia (Mel) Workman of Traverse City, three sons, William "Bill" (Debby) Tafelsky of Three Rivers, Richard "Dick" Tafelsky of Traverse City, and Kenneth "Ken" Tafelsky of Traverse City, nine grandchildren, Bonnie, Frank, Mike, Tom, Laurie, Matthew, Kristi, Kathy, and Brian, and twelve great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her sisters Elaine Matson, Joan Sullivan, and Mary Clemencia, as well as sister-in-laws, Lanta (Joe) Tafelsky, Theresa (Ed) Morgan, Martha (Leroy) Robbins, Gloria (Charles) Tafelsky, Virginia (Leonard Tafelsky), and Ann (Lawrence) Weber.
Visitation will be held from 5-7pm at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Monday, October 29, 2018 with a rosary prayed at 6:30pm by Deacon Rene Hoenschied. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. James Hayden presiding. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Entombment will be at Oakwood Catholic Cemetery Masoleum in Traverse City.
