Obituary

Brock Redding, 49 of Traverse City, died at Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids on Sunday, March 8, 2026, with his mom, Sharon, cousin Marcie, and "nephews" Jay & Blake by his side. He suffered for many years with multiple health problems, including heart issues. Despite the serious nature of his existing health problems he ultimately died from complications caused by a sudden Aortic Dissection.

He was born April 9, 1976, to Francis (Bud) Redding, Sr., and Sharon (Carmien) Redding in Traverse City. Brock was born with physical and learning disabilities including dyslexia so reading and writing were difficult however Brock had an extremely curious mind!

His lifelong love of learning began with him reading the family's encyclopedias. On most days one could find at least 2 or 3 on the coffee table, each with multiple bookmarks!

The next opportunity to expand Brock's love of learning came in 1984 with the introduction of the Macintosh (Mac) computer. Brock was 9 years old when his dad bought the family's first Mac to use in his business. Brock loved to attend the monthly Macintosh user group meetings with his dad. Despite being the only kid there, adults in the group held him as an equal and even sought his advice on subjects he had already figured out!

Brock graduated in 1994 from Traverse City Central High School. He then took classes at NMC, including music appreciation. He soon became friends with students in the dorm who informed him of the opportunity to be a volunteer DJ at WNMC radio station. Brock's eclectic taste in music shined when he hosted multiple weekly radio shows, including Pow Wow Highway. He frequently filled in for other DJs, often with little notice, including on many holidays so they could spend time with their families.

He enjoyed connecting with people on social media and making friends all over the world. Brock was an exceptional human being!

Brock studied all cultures and did a deep dive on religions before becoming a member of a Greek Orthodox Church; Archangel Gabriel.

Brock's faith was very important to him, and he felt strongly about the rights to other people's faith, religion, religious practices & preserving their places of worship, whether ancient or new. It troubled him deeply whenever he heard of Temples, churches, mosques, synagogues or religious artifacts being destroyed, especially those occurring during acts of terror or war.

Brock loved all people of all nations and nationalities. He had profound empathy and genuine concern for anyone living with inhumane conditions or treated unfairly no matter the reason.

Brock had a deep love for all his family and cherished his daily talks with his mom. He enjoyed family gatherings especially when broken into small groups which allowed him to connect with individuals on a deeper level.

Brock is survived by his mom, Sharon of Traverse City, his Aunts and Uncles: Debra (Jim) Hymbaugh of Creston, Iowa, Thomas (Denise) Redding of Creston, Iowa, and JoAnne (John) Courtade of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Carolyn (Mike) Thayer of Traverse City, Nancy Challender of Portage, MI, special cousin Marcie (James) Powell, "nephews" Jay and Blake Powell & multiple cousins & friends.

Brock was preceded in death by his dad "Bud" in 2015, his brother Francis in 2018, his maternal Uncles; James Carmien, Jack Challender, Clive Wilson and all of his grandparents.

A funeral service honoring Brock will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Archangel Gabriel Greek Orthodox Church, 7111 US 31 North Traverse City MI 49690 with visitation one hour prior. Fr. Ciprian Streza will officiate. There will be a luncheon after the service.
