Burton Samuel Griner, 103, of Traverse City, passed away at Boardman Lake Glens on March 29, 2017.
He was born on July 23, 1913, the only child of James Loide Griner and Myrtle Blanche (Burton) Griner in Copemish, Michigan.
He graduated in 1931 from Copemish High School. He attended Ferris State College. On January 21,1936 he married Adeline C. Cook of Grant Township. They had three children, daughter, Patricia, and sons, Burton Jay and James Earl.
Burton lived in the Grand Traverse area his entire life. He and Adeline were founding members of the Traverse City Presbyterian Church.
Burton owned and operated his 400-acre farm during his early adult life and then worked as a field agent for the U.S. Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service until his retirement in 1977.
During their retirement years, Burton and Adeline took many trips overseas and in their motor home traveling the United States. They lived several winters at their home in Sun City Center Florida.
Burton is survived by Patricia (Tom) Swanson of Copemish; and sons, B. Jay (Susan) Griner and James Earl (Camille) Griner of Traverse City; seven grandchildren, Pamela Swanson (Dave Wolfe), Lisa (Glen) Sauer, Joan (Norman) Licht, Steven Griner, Jeffrey Griner, Jennifer Griner, and Becky Randolph. He also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, six great-great grandsons, and his sister-in-law, Faye Bradford of Sun City Center, FL.
Burton was preceded in death by his parents, and by Adeline, his wife of more than 80 years, who passed away October 27, 2016.

A memorial service will be held for Burton and Adeline on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm with a visitation one hour before.
