Candice Marie Westerfield, age 79, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026, with her husband by her side.

Candice was born on November 28, 1946 in Traverse City, Michigan to the late Robert and Marian (Davis) Barrett. She was a 1964 graduate of Traverse City Central High School and earned her associate’s degree from Northwestern Michigan College. Candice was a member of, and very involved with, Grace Episcopal Church in Traverse City, where she helped with Sunday school, youth group, and the finance committee. She worked for 30 plus years at Cone Drive Operations in Traverse City as an accountant and was very proud of her employment with the same company without any missed time. She was also a long-time member of the Order of the Daughters of the King.

She married the love of her life, Jim Westerfield, and in their early years of marriage, they hosted 3 exchange students. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, and spending time at her cottage on the lake near Elk Rapids. She was also very proud of her extensive family genealogy work.

Candice will be missed by her husband of 50 years, Jim; several nieces and nephews; as well as close friends across the country. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Charles Barrett and Christopher Barrett.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses of Munson Hospice who cared for Candice in her final days.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St. Traverse City. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Grace Episcopal Church, 341 Washington St. Traverse City, with visitation beginning an hour prior, starting at 10:00 am. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City. Memorial contributions in Candice’s honor may be given to the Grace Episcopal Church Elevator Fund.
