Carl Michael Stempin

Carl Michael Stempin, 78, of Traverse City passed away Monday, June 20, 2016 at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City.

Carl was born on Wednesday, February 9, 1938 to the late Stephen and Leocadia (Nizol) Stempin in Hamtramck. He graduated from Hamtramck High School and then continued his education at Oakland University, earning his Bachelors of Science degree. On Saturday, August 31, 1957, Carl married Rosalie Jane Sliwinski at St. Rita's Parish in Detroit.

An accountant, Carl had been employed by Wayne State University Press. He then accepted a position with Stanford University, also working in the accounting field. Carl and Rosalie have made their home in Interlochen and Traverse City for nearly 20 years. Carl enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading and playing pinochle , and yet his greatest joy was his grandchildren.

Carl is survived by his wife Rosalie; his children, Julie Ellen Stempin of Oakland, CA; Jason Peter (Lesa) Stempin of Kenosha, WI; Todd Matthew (Erin) Stempin of Traverse City, his beloved grandchildren, Hayden, Annie and Paul; a daughter in law, Kathy Stempin of Seattle, WA and his sister, Margie (Joe) Kloka of Lake Orion and Traverse City. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his son Carl Stephen Stempin on Dec. 4, 2014 and his brothers, Dennis and Gary.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 29 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Greg McCallum presiding. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the mass.

The family has asked, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carl's name be directed to one of his favorite charities, The Salvation Army, P. O. Box 5228, Traverse City, MI 49696-5228.
