Carlene Mae Schroeder, 89, died peacefully in her home on Thursday, January 8, 2026. She was born in Detroit Michigan and grew up in Grosse Pointe. Carlene was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Schroeder, father Carl Schroeder, brother, Otis Schroeder (Margi), and sister Elaine Dossin (Richard). She is survived by her children, Scot (Birdie) and Barry (Susan) Schweikart, and daughter, Sue Schweikart, as well as her five grandchildren, Jenna Becker, Nicholas, Hannah, Benjamin, and Matthew Schweikart. As well as her great grandchildren Harrison, Eloise and Rosellette.

Carlene graduated from Grosse Point North where she played the saxophone in band for many years. She spent many of her summers as a teen on Torch Lake and later, bringing her family to her parents property for summer vacation. She eventually moved to the Traverse City area in 1985 where she worked as a pharmacy technician.

In her retirement, Carlene was an avid Detroit Tigers fan; even visiting their training camp during the winters in Florida with her mom. She loved watching her grandchildren on the ball field, and at other sporting events she enjoyed a quiet life and a love for the wildlife. She often watched out her windows. She was always warm and welcoming with visits from family and friends. We give a heartfelt thank you to Brandon and his team at French Manor Terra and to the team of Hospice of Michigan.
