Carlton Edward Allen

March 19, 1935 — November 3, 2013

Carlton Allen of Grawn and formerly of Indian River and Rochester passed away November 3, 2013 at home with his family by his side. He was 78.

Carlton was born on March 19, 1935 in Pontiac to the late Carl and Jeannette (Houghton) Allen.

Carl graduated from Troy High School in 1953. He continued his education at Lawrence Tech and earned an Engineering degree from Kettering University, the former General Motors Institute. On August 27, 1955 Carl married his high school sweet heart Myrna Hohl. Together they raised two children Carrie and Kurt and were married for 57 years. Carl worked as an Engineer for General Motors and retired after 35 years with the company. Following retirement, he and Myrna moved to Indian River where they became members of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Indian River Sportsman's Club. Carl was a sustaining member of the Boy Scouts of America.

In his spare time Carl enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, building models and tinkering in his workshop. Never wanting to be the bearer of bad news, you could often hear him chuckle and announce "Houston, we have a problem!" He will be remembered fondly by his family as a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.

Carl is survived by his daughter Carrie (Patrick) O'Brien of Grawn, grandsons Nathan (Georgia) O'Brien of Traverse City and Kevin O'Brien of Grawn, sister Janet Ann Crane of Northport, a very loving and close extended family and many friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife Myrna, son Kurt, brother Neil, and beloved dog L.B.

Per Carl's wishes cremation has taken place and the family will remember him privately.

Carl and Myrna will be interred at the Christian Memorial Cemetery in Rochester at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to an organization of your choice or join the global "pay it forward" movement in memory of Carl.
