Obituary

Carol Sue Bailey followed the Lord home when He reached out His hand on Friday, September 13, 2013. She passed away peacefully at Munson Medical Center in the loving care of her family and caregivers. She was born Thursday, September 24, 1936 in St. Louis, MI, the last of eight children born to Buhl B. and Irene (Breece) Rhoades. She graduated in 1954 from St. Louis High School and on September 28, 1956, she was married by Rev. Scott to Jim Bailey at the First Methodist Church in St. Louis.

She is survived by her husband Jim and three children, Jacque (Mark) Schroeder of Brandon, Florida and Tampa Florida, Jim (Kim) Bailey and Terri (Carl) Townsend, all of Traverse City. She also is survived by eight beautiful grandchildren; Nick, Rick and Alexandra Whitfeld, Amber and Reid Bailey and Jake (Ashlee), Casey and Hanna Townsend. Also surviving are three step grandchildren, Elizabeth, Mark and Mera Schroeder of Wisconsin. She leaves one great granddaughter, Makenna Townsend of Traverse City. Also surviving, her sister and best friend, Nancy (herb) Hovey of Elsie, a sister in law, Pat Rhoades-Hall of Lake Leelanau and a brother in law Charles Parkes of St. Louis. She leaves many loving nieces and nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Buhl B. Jr, Breece, Dick and Jerry and two sisters, Mary Parkes and Margaret Worthy-Nelson. Also preceded her in death were brothers in law, Mike Worthy and Gordon Nelson, a sister in law, Barbara (Eldredge) Rhoades and Chuck Hall, husband of sister in law, Pat Rhoades.

Carol loved watching their grandchildren's sporting events, their musicals, dance recitals, etc. as well as being with her family and friends. She enjoyed her computer, antiques, collectibles, genealogy, yard and flower gardening, the Detroit Tigers, University of Maryland soccer, Major League Soccer, the TV show Jeopardy, crossword puzzles, trivia, playing cards, board games, family reunions, fishing, camping, bowling and sitting at her kitchen table looking out on the lake. Carol spent 15 years working with Girl Scouting, Cub Scouts, Girls Club and was the St. Louis Little League Secretary was the secretary of the St. Louis Recreation Council, a Pony League Assistant Coach, worked with the Carrie Knause School Recreation program, was a Carrie Knause Library volunteer and was involved with the St. Louis Sports Boosters.

Cremation has taken place and per her wishes no service will take place. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Alma.
