Carol Joyce Carlson, 94 of Traverse City passed away Friday, May 20, 2022 with
her loving family at her side.
Carol was born on July 23, 1927 in Norway, MI to the late Fred and Elizabeth
(Roeder) Watters. She was married to the late Evert Carlson on June 29,1946 in
Norway, Michigan. Together they lovingly raised two sons David and Donald.
Carol moved to the Traverse City area in 1964. She was a past member of the
Kingsley Baptist Church, Traverse City Bible Baptist Church and East Bay Calvary
Church. She so enjoyed the weekly church service with Sanjay Woolcott and her
many friends at The Village Bay Ridge Adult Community where she spent 20+
years before moving in with her son David's family.
Carol was active in many church activities and loved singing in the choir, especially
all those years she sang under her son, Dave's directing. She loved baking and
cooking and was known for her Cornish Pasties and English Saffron Buns. She
loved collecting recipes and loved being with family and friends. She made many
good friends as they moved to different areas. She looked forward to those daily
phone calls from her son Don and spending time with her good friends Diane
Tollefson and Joyce Grush. Some of her favorite hymns were "What a Day that
Will Be", "Because He Lives", "Until Then", and many more.
Surviving Carol are her sons, David (Irene) Carlson, Donald (Cheryl) Carlson,
grandchildren Daniel (Mary) Carlson, Karen Carlson, Christina (Mathew) Ingraham,
Stephanie (Nathan) Weemhoff, Justine (Daniel) Taylor, Tim Carlson, 23 great
grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
A memorial service will be celebrated by Sanjay Woolcott at 11 am on Thursday,
May 26, 2022 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a visitation held from
10-11 am. Burial will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens at 2pm.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the activity fund at Bay Ridge.
