Carol Mae Morris McNamara, 79, of Traverse City passed away Wednesday, September 04, 2013 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, with her family by her side.
Carol was born in Detroit on Friday, April 27, 1934 to Henry and Florence Morris.
On Saturday, July 31, 1954, in Pontiac, she married Russell F. McNamara. They moved to Traverse City in 1960, and together they raised five children.
Carol worked in a bank, followed by employment in childcare and CAP Computer Company. She also volunteered at Munson Medical Center in Medical Records. In recent years, as she battled many health issues, she enjoyed doing needlepoint and was an expert on old movies.
Carol is survived by her husband of 59 years, Russell, and children Lynn Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, Sandra and husband Joshua Wysong of Park City, UT, Lorraine and husband Shaun Paton of Kingsley, Jeffrey McNamara and wife Marnie of Interlochen and Paula and husband Sean Hurt of Bellevue, WA. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Ted, Carol, Logan, Torrie, Travis, Evan, Audrey, Tyler and Caitlyn, as well as five great grandchildren, Bridget, Maya, Naomi, Jacob and Asa. Carol is also survived by her sisters, Evelyn Carpenter of Waterford, Sarah Reddick of San Diego and Skye O'Byrne of Montana, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Leslie and brother, Douglas.
Carol was a wonderful person, loving, kind and gentle and would always go out of her way to help a family member. She was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation for Carol will begin at 12 noon today, Friday, Sept. 6 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Gary Hogue will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
