Carol Jean Mikowski

Carol Jean Mikowski, 70, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023 at The Villas. She was born Carol Jean Stebner on August 3, 1952, in Traverse City, to Allen and Patricia Stebner. She was a graduate of Traverse City Senior High in 1970, and attended Northwestern Michigan College and Ferris State College. Carol worked at Cone Drive from 1978 until she retired. She met her husband, Dave, at work. They were married from 1998 until Dave's passing in 2022.

Carol was loved and will be missed by her family and friends. She grew up in the Traverse City area, where she loved to swim, especially at Bar Lake, Good Harbor Beach, the Crystal River, and South Manitou Island. Weekends and summers were enjoyed fishing on Shell and Narada Lakes at Sportman's Paradise– a resort owned by her grandmother in Port Oneida. She also loved the fresh strawberry shortcake at the Douse Cottage on Little Traverse Lake. Her travelling itch took her to San Diego, California, where she lived for a short time, then to British Columbia by train. She was always looking for an adventure when growing up.

Carol is survived by her brother Jim (Suzanne) Stebner of Traverse City and sister Linda (Richard) Kenny of Alden; nephews Tom and Ken Stebner, and Sam and Jack Stebner. Carol also leaves behind five stepchildren: Stephanie (Phillip) Rice, David Mikowski, Jr., Douglas (Niki) Mikowski, Sarah (Scott) Herrington, Shaun (Sarah) Mikowski; twenty grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Bill, and her husband, Dave.

The family would like to thank Melanie Ackerman for her support and countless trips to the hospital. Also, Shaun and Sarah Mikowski for the day-to-day care they provided Carol, along with the staff at Munson Medical Center and The Villas. And final shoutout to brother, Jim, for making sure the furnace was always keeping her warm and smiling.
