Carol E. Simon

Carol Ellen Simon née Moeller, age 93, died at her home in Leelanau County, MI on January 15, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her son, Eric. Surviving are her husband, Peter, daughters Kristel (Bill) Wiesner, Sonja (Dale) Robertson, and six grandchildren; Clare (Andrew) Tiemann, Charles Robertson, Grace Wiesner, Leland Robertson, Annalisa (Jonathan) Tanas, and Tatyana Robertson. Her sister, Miriam McNeilly, lives in Racine, Wisconsin

Carol was born in Saginaw, Michigan to Albert and Alma née Siedel Moeller. She was baptized into Christ at Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she met, and eventually married, her husband Peter. As children, the couple both attended Holy Cross Elementary school and Arthur Hill high school. In 1938 Carol's Sunday School teacher was her future sister-in-law (and Peter's oldest sister), Catherine Lewis. Carol attended Valpariaso University and Central Michigan University where she earned a bachelor's degree in education. She taught school in Vassar and in Midland, Michigan. In 1967 Peter and Carol moved their young family to Traverse City.

Carol was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church choir, teaching Sunday School, serving in the church library, and on the Valpariaso University Guild. She enjoyed sailing, canoeing, and snow skiing. She was a 4-H leader, serving on the 4-H Youth Association Board in Leelanau County, and member of the Grand Traverse Audubon Club, and Cherryland Garden Club. Carol spent much time in her gardens and was most relaxed when her fingers were in the soil.

Throughout their marriage of 70 years, Carol and Peter created a home full of love, generosity, grace, and service to others. She lived a life of great joy with scripture and faith in God as her unfailing guides.

A Memorial Service honoring Carol will take place at 1:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 12:00 noon, on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1003 S. Maple St., Traverse City, Michigan 49684.
