Carolyn Shoptaw, age 73, of Traverse City, Michigan passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
Carolyn was born on September 23, 1951 in Wyandotte, Michigan. She was the third of four children born to the late Carl and Joyce Holston.
Growing up in Wayne, Michigan, Carolyn graduated from Wayne Memorial High School in 1969. After high school she spent a brief period working in healthcare before taking a job as a judicial secretary. Carolyn spent the rest of her working years with the court system, and she retired from a position with the United States Court of Appeals.
Married to her high school sweetheart on September 5, 1970, Carolyn and her husband experienced living in Connecticut and Colorado before settling long term in Livonia, Michigan.
Carolyn loved caring for her family and her home. She enjoyed traveling, searching for antiques and has explored her way through the U.S., England, Ireland, France and Italy.
Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, David Shoptaw, daughter Holly Shoptaw (Jeff Tampakes), sisters; Linda (Robert) Vincent and Gloria Konrad, niece, Chirsty Cook, and many nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David Holston.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice of Michigan and the staff at the Grand Traverse Pavilions for their compassion and care for Carolyn.
Friends are welcome to visit with Carolyn's family from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St. Traverse City, Michigan 49684.
A Funeral Service honoring Carolyn will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Pastor Deb Patterson will officiate. Burial will follow in Coldsprings Township Cemetery.
