Catherine "Cathy" A. Layman

Cathy Layman, 63, of Suttons Bay passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019. She spent her final day on earth surrounded by her family and passed peacefully into her loving Savior's arms.

Cathy was born on July 2, 1956 in Carbondale, IL to the late Audley and Catherine (Kinnee) Bruce. They raised her to be steadfast in her faith, accepting of others, and deeply committed to helping those in need.

Nonjudgmental and unwavering in her love for people from all walks of life, she faithfully served our community through the weekly community meals at Bayview Wesleyan Church.

She married her life's companion, Jeffrey H. Layman, on September 30, 1978. Together they raised two beloved daughters, Rachel and Sarah, and many wonderful dogs.

After retiring from her work as a bookkeeper at Leelanau Vacation Rentals, she dedicated herself to her volunteer work with the Northwest Food Coalition (NWFC).

As an officer with NWFC, she worked tirelessly to feed the most vulnerable of our neighbors through our local food pantries, baby pantries, and meal sites.

Left to live up to her legacy is her husband Jeff of 41 years; daughters Rachel (Billy) Johnson, Sarah (Bryan) Schultz; grandson Carter Schultz; brothers Timothy (Karen) Bruce, John Bruce and many other loving family members and friends.

Waiting to meet her as she passed into her eternal reward were her parents and brother Paul.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 6-8pm at Bayview Wesleyan Church. Funeral services will also be held at the church on Friday October 4, at 11am with a visitation held one hour prior.
