Catherine "Kay" Claire Cupp

Oct 24, 1955 — Oct 15, 2026

Catherine “Kay” Claire Cupp, 70, of Traverse City, passed away on October 15, 2026, at Munson Medical Center with her loving family at her side.

Kay was born on October 24, 1955, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Harold Reed and Sarah Florence (Muren) Cupp. One of five children, she grew up with strong family bonds and remained especially close to her sister, Linda.

After graduating from high school, Kay’s love of the outdoors became a lasting part of her life. A hard worker, she particularly enjoyed her work as a groundskeeper, operating mowers at several local golf courses, including Lochenheath and A-Ga-Ming. Of all the roles she held, however, being a mother to her son, Wesley, was the one she treasured most.

Kay loved hiking, riding her four-wheeler, and spending time outside. She enjoyed gardening, even if her efforts did not always produce the results she hoped for. Camping was another favorite pastime, and she happily returned to the same campground and the same campsite year after year. She also loved the comfort of home. Kay knew what she liked, stayed true to herself, and approached life with determination.

Halloween was, by far, Kay’s favorite holiday. She delighted in all things spooky and especially enjoyed thrillers and scary movies. Her trusty VHS player served her well for many years before she finally made the switch to DVDs.

Above all, Kay loved her family. She cherished time with Wesley and Anna and especially her granddaughters, Sadie and Lina, spending every other weekend with the girls and making the most of every opportunity to be together. Preparing chili and breakfast casseroles for them was one of the many ways she showed her love. Her beloved little dog, Dixie, also held a special place in her heart.

Kay is survived by her son, Wesley (Anna) Keplinger; granddaughters, Sadie and Lina; sisters, Linda and Claudia; brother, Hal; and her cherished dog, Dixie. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary.

A private family gathering will take place outdoors in remembrance of Kay. Memorial contributions may be directed to Kay's family.
