Catherine Anne Padesky (nee O'Brien), age 78, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer while holding hands with her children and cherished husband, John. Cathy was born in Detroit and attended St. Scholastica and Mercy High School. While attending Aquinas College, she met the love of her life, John, and they began a lifelong journey of love, humor and adventure for 55 years! From Grand Rapids, to Detroit, to Burt Lake, to Traverse City and Atlanta, Cathy and John were true soulmates that were up for anything and never left each other's side. Being with her family was everything to Cathy! She also embarked upon her lifelong passion for Catholic education (Catholic Central, Shrine) and impacted the lives of numerous lucky students over her incredible teaching career of 42 years. "Mrs. Padesky was my favorite teacher!" is a sentiment that continues to this day. Cathy will be known for her fierce and never-ending love for her husband, children and grandchildren. Oh, how she loved us! She put others first every single minute of her blessed life until she left us for Heaven. Our mom leaves us with the everlasting gift of strong Catholic faith. Catherine is preceded in death by her parents (Gerald and Rita) and brothers (Gerald, Jr. and Patrick). She is survived by her loving husband, children Ellen (Mark) and John (Mary), her prized grandchildren Maeve, Shane and Luke, plus sisters Maureen (Tony) and Rosemary (Mike), many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. The family will hold a visitation at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, 49684 on Monday, November 27, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., Immaculate Conception Church, 308 North Cedar Street, Traverse City, 49684. There will also be a one-hour visitation prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to a charity of your choice in our sweet mother's name.
