CEDAR - Cecilia Mary Largent Smith, 102, of Cedar, passed away unexpectedly
Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Munson Medical Center, with her loving family
by her side. Cecilia was born Dec. 21, 1907, in Cadillac, to the late
Bernard and Valeria (Thibeaut) Long.
She married the late Alfred Largent Sr. on May 24, 1927. Together they had
seven wonderful children. After his passing in 1970, she married the late
Bert Smith on May 1, 1976, in Traverse City.
Cecilia worked at Trufit Trousers for over 20 years.
She was a dedicated Detroit Tigers Baseball fan; she enjoyed traveling,
fishing and playing card games such as euchre and Parcheesi. She loved to
knit, sew, quilt, crochet and made beautiful afghans for all her family
members. Traveling and spending time with family were also cherished times
for her.
She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, St.
Rita's and Holy Rosary. She said the rosary and prayed daily.
Cecilia is survived by daughter-in-law, Thelma Largent; children, Alfred Jr.
(Caroline) Largent, Theresa (Jerry) Kuhlman, Thomas Sr. (Ruth) Largent, Joan
Thayer, Barbara (Jerry) Brief and Janet Blake; two brothers, Louis (LouAnne)
Long of Cadillac and Leonard Long of Frankfort; and sister-in-law, Joyce
Johnson of Cadillac. She is survived by four generations of grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her oldest son, James Largent; grandchildren,
Patrick Weese, Robert Largent and Linda Stachnik; and great-grandson, Eric
Weese.
Visitation will be today, July 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and
Monday July 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recitation at
7 p.m., all taking place at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A Mass will
be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church, with Fr.
Donald Libby serving as celebrant. Burial will take place at Oakwood
Catholic Cemetery.
