Obituary

Charles A. "Chuck" Oxley, of Traverse City passed away on June 8th, 2014 at his residence.
He was born on December 29, 1931, to Albert C. and Goldie F. (Jackson) Oxley in Robinson, IL. On June 10, 1956 he married Reba Adaline Dougherty in Mt. Carmel, IL.
Chuck graduated from Robinson High School in 1949 and from Eastern Illinois University in l953 with a major in chemistry. He received a Master in Educational Administration from University of Illinois in l971. After graduation from Eastern Illinois, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Upon discharge from the service, he worked for Case Mfg. Corp., in Robinson, IL in the laboratory and later for General Carbon and Chemical in Robinson in the lab and later as Plant Manager. In 1962, he was employed by Reynolds Metals Co. in Baton Rouge, LA as Plant Superintendent to start a coke calcining plant. After working eight years in industry, Chuck realized his true desire of employment was in the field of education.
Chuck was employed by Glenbard High School District #87, Glen Ellyn, IL as a chemistry teacher and later as Administrative Assistant at Glenbard East High School, in Lombard, IL. When Glenbard South H. S.
opened in 1971, he served as Assistant Principal and Principal until 1979 when he was transferred to the District Office as Director (and later Assistant Superintendent) of Personnel. While living in Glen Ellyn, Chuck coached and served on governing boards for youth baseball, football and basketball.
He retired in 1987 and in 1990, moved to Traverse City, Michigan with Adaline to be near their son, C.J. and grandchildren.
He was a member of Kiwanis Golden K, a founding member of Traverse Area Camera Club and a member of the Presbyterian Church. His interests were fishing, gardening, woodworking, photography and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Adaline; his two sons, CJ (Vicki) of Traverse City and Roger (Sandie) Oxley of Louisville, KY. His memory lives on with his six grandchildren; Sarah and Matt Oxley of Traverse City, JD (Jennifer), Justin (Kim), and Bricker Oxley, and Brittany (Zach) Barnes of Louisville, KY.; and four Great Grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Chuck at 11am on Saturday, July 19 at the Presbyterian Church in Traverse City with a visitation from 10-11am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Kiwanis Golden K, the First Presbyterian Church, or a charity of one's choice. Please sign Chuck's online guestbook www.reyolds-jonkhoff.com .
